Hardware
Included components
The DD Engine @ DD1000i package includes the following hardware components:
- DD1000i with integrated DDE Upstream and Downstream proxies
- 19” Rack mounting kit
- Port lock panels
- Power cables
Device basics
The DD1000i is a Data Diode designed for 19” rack mounting. It is physically divided into two separate sections, DATA IN and DATA OUT, which are linked by a fiber cable. Each section is equipped with an integrated proxy computer (DDE Upstream proxy and DDE Downstream proxy) enabling unidirectional protocol communication.
The top lid of the DD1000i must never be removed by unauthorized personnel, or the warranty is void.
Front panel
The image below shows the front panel of the DD1000i device where the following functions are available:
- Status LEDs - Indicates various conditions and activities for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections (see Status indicators).
- Power ON/OFF switches - One switch for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections.
- Fiber Inspection Window - Allows an illuminated view of the fiber cable that is the only link between the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections.
- Tamper Seal - Label that, as long as it is not removed or broken, will indicate that the hardware has not been manipulated.
- Default password sticker - Not included in the image, but shows the unique default password for the device.
Front status indicators
On the front panel, a set of status indicators are available for each of the two sections (DATA IN, DATA OUT) of the DD1000i.
The following status indicators are available:
Indicator | Function | LED | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Power | - | Solid blue | Constantly lit when power is ON. |
Alarm/UID | Alarm, Overheat | Solid red | Indicates that insufficient cooling is provided by surrounding environment or by the internal fans. Turn the device off and let it cool down. |
Alarm/UID | Alarm, Power fail | Flashing red | Indicates that insufficient power is provided. Verify power cords and outlets. |
Alarm/UID | Alarm, Fan fail | Flashing red | Indicates a fan malfunction. Send the device to Advenica for service. |
UID activated | Alarm, Fan fail | Flashing yellow | When the UID function has been activated by an administrator, the flashing yellow indicator can be used to physically locate the DD Engine @ DD1000i in the rack. |
Network activity | Linked to network | Solid green | Indicates that the DATA IN/DATA OUT port is connected to a network. |
Network activity | Data activity | Flashing green | Indicates data activity on the DATA IN/DATA OUT port. |
Storage activity | Drive activity | Flashing orange | Indicates activity on the SSD drive. |
Power ON/OFF switch | - | - | Please note that there are two Power ON/OFF switches, one for each of the two sections (DATA IN, DATA OUT) of the DD1000i. |
Rear panel
The image above shows the rear panel of the DD1000i device where the following functions are available:
- SSD drive - Pre-mounted drive for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections. Each drive has the DD Engine @ DD1000i firmware pre-loaded.
- DATA OUT port - RJ45 1000BaseT port for connection to the DATA OUT destination network.
- DATA IN port - RJ45 1000BaseT port for connection to the DATA IN source network.
- ADMIN ports - One RJ45 1000BaseT port for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections. Used to connect to ADMIN networks or standalone computers.
- VGA ports - One VGA port for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections.
- USB ports - Three USB ports for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections.
- Status LEDs - Indicates link and activity for the DATA IN, DATA OUT and ADMIN ports (see Status indicators).
- Power - One power connector for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections.
Rear status indicators
On the rear panel, a set of status indicators are available for each of the two sections (DATA IN, DATA OUT) of the DD1000i.
The following status indicators are available:
Indicator | Function | LED | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Network activity, ADMIN port | Link to network | Solid green | Indicates that the ADMIN port is connected to a network. |
Network activity, ADMIN port | Data activity | Flashing green | Indicates data activity on the ADMIN port. |
Network activity, DATA IN/DATA OUT port | Link to network | Solid green | Indicates that the DATA IN/DATA OUT port is connected to a network. |
Network activity, DATA IN/DATA OUT port | Data activity | Flashing green | Indicates data activity on the DATA IN/DATA OUT port. |
Tamper seal
The DD1000i is provided with a tamper seal that should not be removed or broken. The tamper seal is located on the front of the device and has a unique Seal ID.
It is recommended that the tamper seal is examined each time physical access to the device is required.
In case the tamper seal is broken, the integrity of the DD Engine @ DD1000i can no longer be trusted and it is recommended that the device is disconnected immediately.
Managing SSD drives
The DD Engine @ DD1000i comes with two SSD drives mounted, one for each of the DATA IN and DATA OUT sections. The drives are mounted in slots located above the network ports on each section of the DD1000i and kept in position by cover plates.
Dismounting SSD drive
Perform the following steps to dismount an SSD drive:
Turn off the DD Engine @ DD1000i.
Mounting SSD drive
Perform the following steps to mount an SSD drive:
Loosen the screw that holds the SSD drive cover plate in position and remove the cover plate.
